Honeywell air purifiers came out with a very interesting group of air purifiers called AirGenius. There are four models that came out a bit earlier with the names AirGenius 3, AirGenius 4, AirGenius 5 and a flagship air purifier AirGenius 6 that came out a bit later.
The most interesting fact about this group of air purifiers is their ambition to revolutionize the main filtering system within the air purifying industry. These purifiers do not use True HEPA filter, but a new and patented ifD filter which is designed to capture as much as 99.99% of particles (0.3 microns and higher), while True HEPA filter is certified to capture as much as 99.97%.

Throughout this article, we will show you similarities and differences between members of this group and give you the most interesting technological innovations and advances that were implemented in AirGenius models.
What do they have in common?
The most notable advantage of AirGenius purifiers is their ifD filter. The filter can give a new fresh breathe of air to the air purifying industry. Firstly, we already mentioned that this filter can trap 99.99% of all particles, but this filter goes two more steps ahead.
The noise level that this filter produces is lower than of True HEPA filter due to the significant diminishing of air flow resistance. This means that the whole purifiers make less sound and they are quieter than the competition.
The last and the most interesting fact about this filter is that it is permanent, which means that it is also washable and its lifespan is expected to be up to 5 years.
Unfortunately for the competition, True HEPA filters are not washable or permanent. It is important to mention that the maintenance costs are frequently a problem within the air purifying industry, and if the market accepts this new technology, it will quickly bring down the costs of air purifiers.
We have covered the most important technological advancement of the AirGenius group, but there is much more. Below this paragraph, you will find a table which will show some of the main similarities and differences of the AirGenius models.

Next, to the main filter, pre-filter is also washable and reusable in all of the AirGenius models. With the air purifier comes a standard washable foam pre-filter for larger particles and an odor-reducing pre-filter for smells, odors and gasses.
The second filter is not reusable, and both of them should be replaced every three months if used. The most notable downside is that you have to choose which pre-filter to use at the same time. AirGenius also has an ionizer as a part of the air filtration process in all of the models which are designed as an ion chamber.
Other positive features that these devices have in common, as it is shown in the table are a 5-year warranty, energy star rating, AHAM certification, oscillation function, control panel, and a nice tower design which is perfect for all the room types.
What are the differences?
One might think that these models are very much different because the prices vary significantly, but that is not the case. Coverage differences are very small where AirGenius 3 has a coverage of 225 square feet and AirGenius 6 up to 260 square feet. Also, having so many cleaning levels might look like a marketing stunt rather than the added value, because they only refer to a fan speed since you can’t see a significant difference in the output of the device.
Also, we noticed that the AirGenius comes only in white color, while the others come in black. And there are no other options. Other differences are pretty straightforward and they do make this differences in pricing. Models 3 and 4 don’t have touchscreen controls, germ reduction setting, while additionally AirGenius 3 does not have automatic shut-off timer and allergen reduction setting.
The advances that were made on the AirGenius 6, which is a flagship of the group and the newest model, is in the filter which can capture particles 0.1 microns in size and larger. Also, the device is app friendly, so you can fully control it over your cell phone or a computer. In addition, Honeywell installed proximity sensors, to turn off the device when you leave the apartment (via Bluetooth), allergen alert setting and allergen auto set
- A new type of filter
- Easy to handle
- Energy efficient
- Decent design
- Very good for medium and small spaces
- Can’t use both pre-filters at the same time
- Not suited for large spaces
- No color options
Honeywell made a good quality group of air purifiers which are designed to fit a wide range of pockets. For the people who don’t want to experiment, there is always an option to choose among a variety of True HEPA filter air purifiers, until this technology becomes fully standardized and widespread.
You have a diverse, but similar AirGenius models to choose from, and we hope that we were able to provide you with the most important facts that will help you make the right decision for your home.
If you like to experiment and to go boldly where no man has gone before, the AirGenius 6 is the right device for you and if you like already tested and proven devices you can choose among other three models with respect to your needs and the depths of your wallet.
